The smiles of
Chinese snowboarders lit up the Nokia Nanshan Mellow
Park for the most memorable night in snowboarding.

There
was a huge turnout for the Quiksilver Night Rail Session
on Saturday night. With close to 60 competitors, the
guys and girls came out to show their stuff under the
stars at the Nokia Nanshan Mellow Park. The crowd was
hyped as free beer was flowing like the Yang Tse, beats
were pumped over the airways and riders hit the park for
a 90 minute ‘throw down’ jam session.
With a freshly shaped park and the newest ‘top secret’
obstacle, we were sure to get a good performance from
the participants. The Quiksilver Bread Van was unveiled,
the first jib car in the PRC, and it was definitely the
stoke factor of the evening. This is the first time
Chinese shredders had ever seen a car obstacle and it
took no time before they were killing it. Andrew “Oi”
Wilde did a 270 Tail Slide and a Backside 3 leaving him
with the grand prize, the Nixon Esquire watch. The
riders were going crazy, leaving the organizers no
choice but to switch the format of the contest so the
riders would hit the other obstacles in the course.
The best trick prize on the down rail was for Li Xian
Yi, for his sick Backside 270 on, with an honorable
mention going out to Andrew Wilde for following his big
bro with the same trick. Next up was the fun box where
Li Hai ‘wowed’ the crowed with a huge 270 to frontside
boardslide. The Deeluxe up-box was for Xiao Ming from
Snowfavor, who killed it with a rock-and-roll, and
Fanlei followed suit with his version of the same trick.
The level of riding was higher than ever, with the
Chinese talents pulling out all the stops for great
prizes from Quiksilver, Nokia, Deeluxe, Dakine, and
Dragon.
It was a tight contest between the ladies, which
ultimately left Yindi in top spot on the fun box for her
frontside tailslide. Sandy took the downrail title
female as she frontslide boardslid her way to victory
for the brand new Nokia 7360. All participants went home
with at least a T-shirt and all the free beer they could
muster.
This was definitely a great end for an amazing snowboard
season at Nanshan Ski Resort.
